We went to HR-57 last night, a small jazz
place on 14th Street. The music was good as always (eighth anniversary of
the Thad Wilson Jazz Orchestra), but something has changed.
I've been going to HR-57 occasionally for
five or six years now, and it just seems to have developed a flat-ness at
times. Whether this is an actual change, or a trick of memory, I don't know
for sure. But U St. and 14th St. have changed a lot in those years, so it
seems likely that the club has changed also.
The trumpet in this picture, for the record,
is not from the last night. It's my old trumpet, effectively broken when
someone sat on it at a party. I could never really play it anyway.
