back from vacation I'm back from vacation -- 10 days never seemed so short and so long at the same time. Spent several days in Myrtle Beach, S.C., at an annual family get-together. Another 24 hours in Charleston, S.C., eating in just about any restaurant I could find. And a few days in Carrboro, N.C., just hanging out in the new home. There's a feeling that comes with moving around like that - something that I missed for a big chunk of the time I lived in D.C. The feeling that comes with movement, with waking up in one town and going to sleep in another. Secondary highways are a big part of why I love the South - they just seem so alive and interesting, as if you could go anywhere on a single tank of gas.

I spent a lot of time thinking about Team Wet Dog, and how to take it in a new direction - how to move beyond the weekly random musings and towards something with a more distinct purpose and defined direction. No conclusions or decisions were made. My brother put it best, when I explained that I felt a lack of direction lately: "You're in transition; you can't be on all the time." And he's right. I hope, anyway. So the vacation was perfect - reconnected with family, ate tons of great food, sat for hours on a porch staring at the ocean, and made no decisions. Pretty much what I'd hoped for.
