Squeezed in between Columbia Heights, Rock Creek Park and Adams Morgan, Mount Pleasant, in Washington, D.C., has managed to retail the feel of a small town, the diversity of a large city and the geography of a village. The residents, about 10,000 of them, are a mix of well-off and lower-income. About 30% of the area is Hispanic, 23% white and 46% African America, according to the 2000 census.
